Over the weekend I had the privilege of shooting with Natalie Minx again. Our first shoot was fantastic and we had such a fun time. I’m glad that she came back to Hawaii.

Rather than shooting in the woods like we did last time, this time I chose a secluded beach. I always enjoy seeing how different models interpret the beach and see what each model does with it is just as unique as the models themselves. For this shoot, I had no ideas really. All I wanted to do was to set all the pieces in motion and just see what develops. For me it’s a lot of fun doing things that way because I never know what I’m going to get. I always know I’m gonna get something good but a lot of times, I have to work hard to get it. I don’t mind working hard to get good shots.

I wish we could’ve shot longer that day. The sun was doing some really beautiful things and the way it was casting it’s light across the sky and the beach just made my heart melt. I think next time I shoot on the beach at sunset I’ll have to start later so that I can get more of that magical light that happens at sunset!

Obviously, shooting with a beautiful goddess would be first on my mind but there’s something in me that thinks I should tackle the lastest news first and then get to the pics. So here goes.

Last week I went into the E.R. suffering from what I thought was just bad indegestion. It turned out to be an impacted gall stone. it fricken hurt! So the docs removed my gall bladder and I’ve been recovering during the Christmas holiday. All in all, it’s not so bad. I mean my abdomen does hurt but ultimately it’s nothing. in a few weeks I’ll hardly even notice that it happened at all.

Now onto the goddess part!

The weekend before the gall stone…. I had the priveledge of shooting once again with the beautiful and wondefully talented Serafina! What a joy it is to create art with her. We shot at one of my favorite places to shoot and the light did all the right things that afternoon. We could not have picked a better day or time to shoot nudes!

I tried to incorporate the Nikon speedlight into the shoot but for some reason or another it just didn’t want to cooperate so I abandoned it for most of the shoot. Besides the sunlight was so beautiful all by itself anyways. Towards the end of the shoot we got that golden sunset and that’s when I tried once again to use the speedlight in conjunction with the sunlight and I just love the results of those images!

Overall it was such a great shoot with a truly wonderful and beautiful woman!

It was god fun and a chance to hang out with an old friend whom I don’t to spend enough time with. Photography is as good an excuse as I can think of! I knew because of the weather patterns that we were going to see a remarkable sunset but I wasn’t prepared for what we actually got!

I’ve posted some of the images on Flickr page! Enjoy!

Yesterday was a rather boring day for me. So I decided that after I finished up at my day job, I would go across the street and take a few photos of the sunset. As I pulled into the parking lot I saw that there were some sailing lessons going on in the water near the parking area. I though that would make for some fun photography play time. And it was. I’m not sure if I like anything I got but I’m such a shutter junkie that it almost doesn’t matter. Just a chance to make images is enough for me to be happy.

After the lessons started to wind down, I walked over to a sea wall that protects a very nice swimming area. I wanted to get a few photos of the last moment of light before the sun goes down. I ended up meeting a really cool photographer who was there to do the same thing I was. We had a wonderful time talking about photography, the magical light we were witnessing, and he turned me on to a great photographer Joe McNally.

Here’s my photos from the day… Enjoy!

On Sunday afternoon I had the pleasure of shooting again with Ashleigh. I met Ashleigh last summer and we had a great time working together then. And of course we had a great time on Sunday as well. Since I had already shot with her with lava rocks and in the woods, I decided that this time Id like to shoot with her on one of my favorite beaches to shoot at. I love the beach because it’s just an open stretch of beach that is usually empty. I also like it because it like a blank canvas. You really have to think about what to do there because at first glance…it’s just a beach. But once you get into the place you start seeing all these things that you might not have noticed before. A stand of trees, or the rocks in the shorebreak. It’s the kind of location that demands creativity but can also be very fun tp play with and just see what you get as well.

On this particular shoot I was mainly looking to reinforce the habits that I had been re-learning. And I slipped a few times but was able to catch myslef each time and set myself straight. For the most part I got good, clean, interesting images. Good compositions, in sharp focus.

Towards the end of the shoot Ashleigh was sitting in the shore break and when I changed my position to get another angle of the pose. I saw an amazing sunset happening right above the mountains behind us. I quickly framed my shot and started shooting. I just about died right then and there. I felt that these were the best images of the day. And I broke my 3 shot rule because it was just gorgeous to see it and shoot it.

I am grateful to Ashleigh for being such a great model and such a beautiful human being.

I know that these images aren’t my usual fare. But being a photographer who takes a camera with him everywhere, I find that at times that I see things that just need to be photographed. Sometimes it’s an interesting sign, or a neat tree, and sometimes I see something beautiful and just need to immortalize the moment. These images are of the latter category.

The first image was taken just outside of my office a few days before a major storm hit Oahu. the second image was taken 2 days after that storm hit. It was a pretty bad storm which is why the second image has such significance for me. The weather was quite bad and it forced me to cancel two shoots that I had been looking forward to for weeks. One of those shoots was a once in a lifetime shoot. I was feeling quite down and as I was driving to work this is what I saw out of my car window. After I took the shot, I didn’t feel so bad anymore.
