While I was onthe plane flying to Maui to shoot with Sylvia a few weeks ago. I had this weird thought of getting a few shots that are framed badly… On purpose. I don’t know why but I thought it might be interesting. So while Sylvia was posing on some rocks I decided to hold the camera with one hand beneath my knees as I stood up. I pointed the camera in her general direction and press the shutter release. I was pretty pleased with the result. I think I’ll try some more of this on my next shoot just to see what happens. The shot below is one of the ones I took this way.

I had anoter amazing shoot with the beautiful model Sylvia. We had been trying to figure out how she could shoot with me since she was going to be on Oahu. However the day she was going to be on Oahu was going to be tricky for me to get a shoot together since I’m working two jobs right now. So instead we decided to shoot on Saturday. It turned out to be a much better deal for both of us. This way we could work without trying to cram in two hours worth of work into one hour. I’ll be posting what I learned from this shoot a little later so stay tuned for that…

One of the shots that came out of this shoot give me goose bumps when I look at it. it was completely sontaneous. She just got into this pose and the magic happened. Sometimes it’s just being in the right place at the right time…

The second shot was an idea that stemed from an idea that Sylvia had. Since she was the inspiration for the idea I give her the credit.

Looking back at a few images I saw this one.

This was a shot that I thought was interesting when I took it. but when I looked at a day later I didn’t like it. Now I like it. I don’t know why I’m flip-flopping like this but I think my initial reaction had more to do with the fact that I didn’t get any different angles of this pose. I just got one shot. What this image teaches me is get as many different angles as you can of a particular setup. When I look at it I see an interesting shot from her arm looking down to wards her feet. that might have been interesting. or looking up at her face from her knees. Of course hindsight is 20/20.

I like it now because the background dominates the model. My eyes are drawn to the branches and the leaves rather than the model. Which basically forces you to look at the image differently, to see the whole picture. And that’s why I like it now.
