I'm still traumatized by my ABR800 taking a dive into the ocean. I then bought one of those Elinchrome D-Lite 2 go sets and a Visit (Hensel) MPG 1500 – two lights, a wide range of light modifiers and, with the MPG, lots of electricity for powering those lights. But: way too much luggage. For "smaller" jobs I switched to system strobes and cheapo ebay triggers. You might want to take a look at http://strobist.blogspot.com. Now I carry around eight(!) independent light sources with a variety of light modifiers in a small backpack. Take a look at http://www.orbisflash.com , too. Great light sometimes comes in small packages! ;) om. Yup.
