I’m always giddy whenever I hear a model utter these words. The reason is because it means that we are about to do something really wacky or zany. I’m always up for it. what ever it is. On previous shoots I found that the ideas presented after this statement become my favorites shots.

On my last shoot, the model uttered these words and started to explain the idea. She wanted to do a backfacing handstand with her feet resting against bamboo stalks. She also mentioned that I’d have to help

get her feet up and then positioned against the bamboo and facing the right way. Since she would be on her hands she wasn’t going to be very mobile. I thought the idea was great and as far as I know I’ve never seen an image quite like the one that resulted form that idea. (see below for the shot)

I got her up, and grabbed the camera quickly. I shot 7 shots and then quickly ran in to grab her legs and help

her back down. We had a good laugh after that one and I’m still amazed that we did it. It was a truly wacky moment, maybe the wackiest I’ve experienced on a shoot. It still brings a smile to my face. So I thank the model for having the idea. But I thank her more for having the audacity to actually do it.
