Lessons learned from book project
Well I finally got the preview copy of my first book from the publisher. I was shocked because the binding wasn’t all that great. It was basically staple bound. I could’ve done that at home. The second thing was that several of the images which looked fine on my computer screen but printed they looked too dark. So I need to go back to the drawing board in terms of the brightness of the images. I’m still going to publish a book but I will probably hold off for a few more months to edit the photos and make corrections.
My concept for the book will be the serendipity that happens on my shoots. Serendipity is something that happens often in my life and it’s a concept that I’m deeply fascinated with. Being in the right place at the right time with the right people, can create some really interesting situations. Not to mention some very nice surprises as well. I written a few times about serendipity here.
The basic idea is that you mentally prepare yourself for the task at hand, whatever it is. The next step is to forget everything you just prepared yourself for and enjoy the task. Serendipity comes into play when you start enjoying what you’re doing and you’re open to let it happen. Of course this measn you really have to know what you’re doing. you have to able to let go and emerse yourself in the task fully. I think that being in the moment and going with the flow instead of fighting it to alter it’s course is the killer of those serendipitous moments that make it all worthwhile.
Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
