Lessons learned from shoot on 3/8/06

For those of you who don’t remember which shoot this was.  I link to it here.

This shoot was really quite fun and a little bit of a nice surprise.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from the model.  I knew that she was a dancer so I felt that there were some things that we might try and play with but I just wasn’t sure what she was going to be able to do.

I was nicely surprised when we started to shoot.  She kept repeating how amazing it was to be nude in nature.  It was a truly amazing morning and it felt good to be doing a shoot that morning in the woods.  So  I think she really had a great time.

One of the issuse that came up during the shot was the issue about slightly blurred images due to low-light and thus a slo shutter speed.  This time I was armed with my trusty tripod.  I don’t like shooting with a triod because I feel tied down.  I feel as if Im limited to only certain angles or certain kinds of shots.  I like being able to get low, high, and be in motion as the model finds interesting poses.  So I felt that the tripod limited me in some ways but it also allowed me to get sharp photos when I wouldn’t be able to do so via handheld.

I did the shoot at an ISO speed of 400 again because of low light.  I don’t mind so much about the added noise in the images because it gives it an interesting quality.  Almost like film grain.  and in Black and white, the effect is even more pronounced.

Towards the end of the shoot we walked down the stream towards a natural swimming pool created by the stream.  We did some shots at the top of the waterfall mainly because there was a house that overlooked the waterfall and pool.  I switched to my long lens and found that I need to use a tripod when I use that lens because I can’t stay steady enough when zoomed in.  At one point I ventured from the bank of the stream and walked out on some rock in the stream.  I almost sliped and almost broke my camera.  This is my third close call now and Im starting to think that I should stay out of the water and away from any ledges just in case…

Overall we had a great time and she got to spend a few hours naked in the woods which she enjoyed.  And of course I enjoyed creating some wonderful photos with her.
