Lately I’ve been thinking about ideas because a model I’ll be working with on my next shoot told me that she prefers direction.  So, because of her I’ve been thinking about ideas and what I can do with her that’ll really create beautiful and interesting images.

Normally how I work on a shoot is to let the model and the location inspire me to capture images. On the last shoot I brought very specific ideas to shoot and work on.  When I shared an idea with the model the images came out just as I had imagined them.  The shots where I just came up with them on the fly, well they didn’t really come out well because I didn’t spend any time thinking about where the camera should be or how the models leg is posistioned etc etc.  It was certainly interesting because it was the ideas that really seemed to focus the shoot and give it a sense of direction.  I’m finding that I like this much better than just seeing what happens.

Some ideas I’ve been thinking about lately have to do more with full body nudes.  I think that I’d like to try to capture more shots that show a bigger picture as if the landscape is the focus and the model is just a one piece of that picture.  Other ideas are about specific poses or even a particular piece of clothing.  It’s funny to be thinking about clothing when I’m talking about nudes.  The model in the shot may not be wearing any clothing but by having a shirt or a bikini top in the shot, it could provide an interesting context for the nudity.  And in the end it’s really all about the story that’s being told.

Of course that’s just my idea, I could be wrong…
